shock porn isnt everybodys cup of feces
I don’t understand why anyone over the age of about 27 or so goes into shock at the very idea of teenagers, especially girls, having sex. Teenage years are a time of discovering who you are, of taking control of your own life, and your sexuality is a part of that. People use sexual slurs (like slut, for one) to try and shame girls out of their own natural curiosity and teaching them that teenagers who have sex are badbadbad.
The only reason I can understand as far as abstaining from sex is the risk of getting an STD or pregnant, and if the kid is responsible enough to take control of their body, then they are certainly responsible enough to take care of it. Not that there aren’t idiots who go around sleeping with anyone who lifts the covers for them, or that there aren’t accidents, but sex is an expression of love, and as long as people understand that, they won’t disrespect themselves by using their body as a toy, and they would have the strength to get through anything that happens.
There’s also the creepy “purity” factor that bothers me. Whoever taught anyone that virginity meant purity? Probably the same guy who decided sex was dirty and gross, or the one that decided that girls need to have a proverbial leash on them at all times to stop them from spreading their legs to every Tim and Joe who asks. It’s control, and I’m of the opinion that it’s time for people, especially girls, to start treating their bodies with respect — they decide who they sleep with, and who they don’t, and they are the ones who keep it safe, not their husband or their father, or some unforgiving God who will strike them down if they decide to be independent. In most religions, God is loving — why wouldn’t he be happy for more expressions of love in the world?
Sex is about love. It’s about freedom, about discovering a part of yourself with someone you trust. It is not dirty, disgusting, or impure. It’s beautiful when done right. We need to stop teaching people to be ashamed of their bodies and to start loving them in every way.
A little over a week ago, I posted a poll on this blog asking for feedback about your thoughts on pornography.
As of yesterday, an overwhelming percentage of you believed that looking at pornography is always wrong, no matter the circumstance. (Of course, these results are likely more so a…
